Over two thousand years ago, the teacher Sandipani taught two boys side by side: Krishna, a prince, and Sudama, a poor brahmin's son. Same classroom. Same high standards. No difference in what was expected of them.
We named this initiative for that idea — that a great teacher does not sort students by birth, and that guidance given generously can lift anyone.

We're starting deliberately: build the community first, then the programs.

Invite and carefully review founding students, mentors, and partners. Registration is open — every application is read by a person.
Launch guided mentoring (next)
Thoughtful mentor–mentee matching, structured conversations, and shared professional-development materials.

Reusable curriculum, community events, and pathways for alumni to become mentors themselves.
A note from Mano
I started my career as a below-median-income professional — long hours were standard, but guidance was not. Bit by bit, I moved up into a decent neighborhood. Not an affluent one — a decent one. And somewhere along that climb, I started noticing what I can only call implicit gentrification: opportunity isn’t spread out evenly. It clusters. It follows certain zip codes, certain schools, certain communities — some neighborhoods keep compounding every advantage while others, just streets away, are left watching. And which side of that line a community lands on follows old fault lines, not luck.
That’s the realization this project grew out of. Mentorship is the invisible infrastructure of upward mobility. It just normally flows through affluent zip codes and professional networks, to people who already have access. I got some of that access through luck and persistence. Most motivated young people never do, and that gap isn’t fair.
The Sandipani Initiative exists to route that guidance to the people who don’t inherit it. That’s the whole idea.
